Good Food Brings People Together: Life Lessons from a Tuscan Kitchen

Join Shannon Bream as she welcomes Chef Giancarla Bodoni, culinary director at Monteverdi in Tuscany, Italy, for a conversation about the beauty of simple, pure ingredients and bringing people together through food. Shannon shares the unforgettable story of their first meeting at this medieval UNESCO heritage site, when Chef Giancarla casually invited them to dinner with “some friends” who turned out to be Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis! After owning a South Beach restaurant for over 20 years, Chef Giancarla became deeply concerned about how food is produced and began seeking out small farmers committed to their land and animals. Her philosophy is rooted in Italian tradition: good ingredients are everything, and the best cuisine stems from humble origins with just two, three, or four simple components. She encourages supporting local farming communities because food grown and ripened in your surroundings is fresher and healthier than products transported across the country. Chef Giancarla recently launched Puccia (named for the Italian tradition of scooping up the last delicious sauce with bread), featuring handpicked tomatoes from small farmers and high quality pasta made with just three ingredients. With Thanksgiving approaching, she reminds us that cooking doesn’t have to be intimidating and offers practical advice for the overwhelmed home cook, offering hope for anyone who wants to share love through food without the stress.
